Brunch with bass! The fishing derby is back!

Hey, kids. It’s time to start practicing your casting! This year’s fishing derby will be held on Sunday, June 11, starting at 11 am.

In Lake Lucille, the fishing derby has been a rite of summer for the past several decades. And deservedly so. When a kid pulls a sunny or bass out of the baby lake, an ear-to-ear smile usually comes with it—for both child and grown-ups.

After organizing it for the past dozen years or so, Rob Collazo retired from the duties in 2021. But Aileen and Jimmy McDonald have volunteered to coordinate the event this year. Aileen says to think of it as a “Brunch with bass,” with bagels, donuts, coffee, and juice available for attendees.

Here are the details: The event will be held at the baby lake, and all children 13 or younger are welcome to compete. Sign-up will be at 11 am, with fishing going from 11:30 to 12:30. Bring your own pole.

Team McDonald is looking for volunteers to bring brunch munchies, or to help with anything set-up to scorekeeping to buying supplies. If you can pitch in, let them know ASAP by phone or email:

  • Aileen: 845-548-3296 or Aileen1212@hotmail.com.

  • Jimmy: 203-979-2606 or jimmymcdonald@me.com.
